First in family. First in line.
I’m Raj Sarma, originally from Guwahati, Assam. Neither of my parents attended college. I was the first in my family to hold a passport — and the first to study abroad, attending the University of Alabama on a full-tuition scholarship with multiple fellowships. I graduated with a degree in chemical engineering, went on to build a consulting career in the United States, and grew from project associate to program manager, leading large teams across demanding, multi-year engagements.
At a point when staying in the US was the easier path, I made a deliberate choice to return to India and build a career in finance. Today I work as an investment analyst in Mumbai in the energy transition and infrastructure space.
I started Admit Alpha because I know exactly what it feels like to navigate the admissions process without a safety net — and I know what it looks like when a student who wasn’t supposed to be in the room gets the opportunity anyway, and quietly outworks everyone in it. I want more students to get that chance.
